Dan Gaffney Suffers Heart Attack - 3/14 - DCRTV hears: Following a week's absence on the air at Delaware 105.9, news talker WXDE in Rehoboth Beach, weekday morning host Dan Gaffney explained the reason for his unannounced time off. Gaffney fills in Saturday evenings at Philadelphia news talker WPHT, 1210. While driving home from his evening gig there March 2, he began to feel pain in his chest, neck, and arms. He continued to drive himself to the Milford, Delaware hospital where he was admitted with a heart attack. The following day a stent was placed to relieve the blockage. During his March 11 announcement upon his return to the airwaves, Gaffney opined, since this episode, he has never felt better in his life.....

Forever Buys Delaware Broadcasting - 2/5 - DCRTV hears that Forever Media has bought Delmarva Broadcasting Company, which owns a batch of stations serving Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore. Reported price $18.5 million. Including WSTW and WDEL in Wilmington, WXCY in Havre De Grace, WAVD in Ocean Pines, WXDE in Lewes, and WNCL, WAFL, and WYUS in Milford. More soon.....

98.5 Goes Country - 9/24 - "Everything Country" is the new format on 98.5, the original home of classic rock "Big" WGBG. Last month, Adams Radio moved the classic rock signal from 98.5 to 107.7, which has been country WKHI.....

Draper Buys WRDE - 8/21 - Draper Media is purchasing the Salisbury-Ocean City market's NBC affiliate, low-powered Channel 31/WRDE in Rehoboth Beach. Draper, based in Salisbury, already owns Channel 16/WBOC, the market's CBS affiliate, plus the market's Fox affiliate, Fox 21 (a WBOC-TV subchannel), along with Telemundo Delmarva, plus a batch of Salisbury area radio stations, including WBOC-FM, WAAI-FM, WTDK-FM, and WCEM-FM/AM. The transfer of ownership is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2018 subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission.....

Classic Rock Takes 107.7 - 8/20 - Adams Radio moves "Big" classic rock from from 98.5 in Seaford DE to 107.7 in Fruitland MD, to better cover the Salisbury-Ocean City area. With the WGBG calls moving to 107.7, replacing the country-formatted WKHI. No word yet about what's coming to the 98.5 frequency.....

Froggy Drops From 1st In Salisbury - 8/3 - The latest batch of radio ratings from Salisbury-Ocean City shows country WWFG out of its usual top position perch. First place goes to urban adult contemporary WSBY, with "Froggy" in second. Adult contemporary WQHO takes third, rocker WZBH fourth, with Christian contemporary WKNZ and rhythmic conteporary WOCQ tied for fifth. News talker WGMD is seventh with adult contemporary WBOC-FM eighth, urban contemporary WZEB ninth, and a three-way tie for 10th between classic hits WAVD, adult alternative WOCM, and WRAU, which relays DC NPR outlet WAMU.....

Milestone For Mike Popovec - 7/24 - Maryland and Delaware radio vet Michael Popovec (aka Mike Bradley) is celebrating 15 years on the air today. For five-plus years, Mike has been both anchoring mornings with news/info/sports and also hosting a talk Show as apart of his 5 AM to 9 AM weekly program on Resort Broadcasting's WGMD, Rehoboth Beach. The station most recently won news and sports awards in Delaware Today Magazine. Mike is one of the busiest guys in the Mid-Atlantic as he also works part-time as sports talk show host and Maryland Football pre- and post-game anchor for Entercom's 105.7 The Fan, WJZ-FM, in Baltimore. He has been a guest on CBS Sports Radio. In addition, he also works part-time as an on-air personality for Forever Media's WCEI in Easton, and on their sister WINX, St. Michael's, where he produces high school football games and hosts their post-game show "Overtime Live." He also does some guest-fill ins on WOCM, Ocean City, and WCTG, Chincoteague. Among his early influences were other area radio vets - Ken Merson, the old "Don & Mike Show," Dave Durian, Ron Smith, and Steve Rouse.....

SFMSports Picks Up Salisbury U Football - 4/24 - Maryland News Network and SFMSports.Net, Maryland's only statewide radio networks with 31 radio station affiliates, announce the addition of Salisbury University Sea Gulls Football to its collegiate properties. This fall, the networks will produce and broadcast all regular and post-season games online and on-air through the collegiate network, SFMSports.Net. SFMSports.Net will produce and broadcast all regular and post- season games, which will be streamed on the network's web and mobile platforms, and broadcast in Salisbury on affiliate WAMS, which is branded as 94.9 JACK-FM. "Salisbury football is a nationally recognized program, which deserves to have an FM home. I am proud that we are able to offer this," explained President and CEO Steve Clendenin. "Through the power and coverage of the Maryland News Network, Salisbury will receive promotion across all of Delmarva, showcasing the student athletes and the program at Salisbury," admitted Clendenin. John Easterbrook (J Brooks) and Phil Martin will return as the play by play crew. "I am excited to return for a 15th season behind the mic doing Sea Gull Football," says J Brooks. The broadcasts on WAMS-FM will start fifteen minutes prior to kick-off with the "All Access Pre-Game Show," with the first game airing on August 31 as the Sea Gulls host Albright. In addition to airing the games on WAMS, the audio stream will also be promoted on Maryland News Network affiliates on the Eastern Shore and streamed live at www.sfmsports.net, the collegiate broadcast division of the Maryland News Network.....
