1190 AM Goes Dark

After three years under an LMA, iHeartMedia has ended its agreement to operate 1190 WTSD in Leesburg and the station is now silent. WTSD is owned by Potomac Radio Group, which has notified the Federal Communications Commission that it has been unable to secure either a new LMA partner or a buyer for the AM outlet. Citing severe financial difficulties, the company says it cannot sustain operations and has taken the station dark while it continues to explore its options.

Potomac Radio Group says WTSD will remain off the air until a new LMA partner or purchaser is found. As always, the clock is ticking when a station goes dark, and it will be worth watching to see if this signal becomes a long-term silent AM in the region.

iHeartMedia began operating WTSD in 2023 and quickly repositioned the station as part of its local sports strategy. At the time, iHeart flipped WTSD along with former Talk 104.7 WONK-FM (W284CQ), and WWDC-HD2, to Sports as iHeart Sports DC. The lineup leaned heavily on Fox Sports Radio, with weekday programming including 2 Pros and a Cup of JoeThe Dan Patrick ShowThe Herd with Colin Cowherd, and The Doug Gottlieb Show. Evenings featured sports betting content from VSiN. iHeart Sports DC Is still heard on 101.1 HD2 and the iHeart Radio app.
