Why ABC7 WJLA And ABC 2 WMAR Are Blocked From DIRECTV Streaming
The Walt Disney Company (owner of ABC) and DIRECTV, are involved in a contract dispute. Last weekend, DIRECTV removed all ABC-owned properties from its service, including ESPN, The Disney Channel, and their other cable networks.
Only ABC programming in the eight markets where Disney owns the local affiliate should be blocked by DIRECTV.
Our local ABC affiliates, WJLA in Washington and WMAR in Baltimore, are not owned by ABC or involved in the dispute.
The local broadcasts are still available on DIRECTV satellite transmission.
However, since ABC manages the streaming rights of local affiliates, streaming on DIRECTV Is blocked for all affiliates regardless of their ownership of the television stations.
