Barrett Media Profiles WTOP’s New Morning Anchor Kristin Diaz
Krystina Alarcon Carroll from Barrett Media published a profile of WTOP‘s new morning anchor, Kristin Diaz, who joined the station earlier this spring. Diaz told Barrett Media that she’s been overwhelmed by the warm reception she’s received from listeners since arriving in Washington.
“You guys have incredible listeners,” Diaz said, praising the many longtime WTOP fans who have reached out through social media and email to welcome her to the market and help her get acclimated to the area. Diaz compared the station’s strong community connection to what she experienced at heritage station KRLD, where she and co-host David Rancken were previously recognized by Barrett Media as one of the top major market news/talk teams.
The profile traces Diaz’s path from television to radio and explores her philosophy on journalism. The daughter of a radio station general manager, Diaz says she was introduced to broadcasting at an early age but didn’t seriously consider the profession until a teacher encouraged her to pursue journalism. Now 17 years into her career, Diaz says she regularly mentors students and reminds aspiring broadcasters that the job isn’t about fame or social media attention. Instead, she believes journalists are public servants whose responsibility is to inform, educate, and share other people’s stories. You can read the profile here.
