Country Insider Spotlights Michael J’s Journey To The Hall Of Fame
As Michael J prepares to be inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame on August 3, a new Country Insider profile looks back at the iHeartMedia personality’s remarkable career, including nearly two decades spent splitting his time between WPOC (93.1) and WMZQ (98.7). From 2007 until last year, J commuted the 38 miles between the two stations every day, logging an estimated 500,000 miles, wearing out three cars, and navigating some of the region’s worst traffic.
In the article, Michael J says the grueling drive was worth it because it kept him connected to listeners in both markets. “You’re living with your listeners,” he said, noting that experiencing the same traffic jams and daily frustrations as his audience helped him better understand their lives. Michael J now hosts mornings on WPOC, middays on WMZQ, and voice tracks middays for more than 25 markets.
Michael J will be inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame on August 3 in Nashville as part of this year’s On Air class. You can read the article here.
