Craig Laughlin To Have Heart Surgery

Monumental Sports Network color commentator Craig Laughlin, who has been on Washington’s broadcasts for over three decades, announced during the second intermission during the Caps’ vs. Montreal Canadiens that he would be undergoing heart surgery at the end of January.

“I’m focused on it, I want to meet it head on, I’m optimistic and confident that I’m going to return better than I was right now.” Laughlin said on-air

Laughlin won’t travel to Nashville with the Capitals for Saturday’s game but will be on the air for the following three games before taking a medical leave.

Alan May will replace Laughlin alongside Joe Beninati during his absence.

“For more than 30 years, Craig has been a valued member of our network and is loved and respected by both our organization and the Capitals fan base,” the Capitals and Monumental Sports said in a statement.
