Dave Lucas Retiring

7News/WJLA-TV announced today Dave Lucas will be retiring from WJLA 24/7 News. Dave’s last afternoon newscast will be November 22.  

Lucas was one of the original news anchors for NewsChannel 8, he has called the station his home since it went on the air 34 years ago.

Dave’s broadcast journey started nearly 48 years ago in Charleston, S.C., as a sports and health reporter.  From there, he was a nationally syndicated medical reporter for Medstar Television and host of Discovery Channel’s daily Your Health! program.  

In 2021, Dave was inducted into the Silver Circle of the National Capital Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He’s been honored with numerous journalism honors including three regional Emmy awards and a national Edward R. Morrow award for his political reporting. Lucas also points with pride to back-to-back National Cable Ace awards for Healthline as the nation’s best local public affairs program.

Dave and his wife Lisa are looking forward to their next adventure in Richmond, VA, where they’re moving to be closer to their children and a happily increasing number of grandchildren.
