Farmville FM Almost Goes Silent
Yesterday, David Layne, owner of 101.3 FM The X (WXJK) in Farmville, filed a request with the FCC for temporary authority to take the 6,000 watt station off the air.
Layne told the FCC he was exploring ways to preserve the station’s signal, including a potential sale. Just hours later, however, a DCRTV reader heard Layne on the air asking listeners for donations to help keep the station operating. The request to go silent was withdrawn shortly afterward.
Layne tells DCRTV that he is ready to retire after operating WXJK for the past 33 years. He says he has been dealing with some health issues and feels it is time to move on. According to Layne, he is currently working with a prospective buyer who asked that the station remain on the air while the transaction moves forward. That prompted him to withdraw the request to suspend operations.
