WPGC Morphing Into Urban Hot AC
WPGC has added older songs to its playlist and changed its slogan to “DMV’s Hip Hop, R&B, and Throwbacks.”
WPGC is looking to attract more older listeners from WHUR, which, in the latest ratings, went from 7.4 to 7.6, making them the number one music station in Washington.
WPGC went from a 4.0 to a 3.7.
It looks like they are trying to carve out a niche between the older WHUR demos and the younger WKYS demos.
WHUR’S increase during this rating period is remarkable, considering they were either off the air or on reduced power during the repair work on their broadcast tower in Tenleytown.
Long-time imaging voice Dr. Dave Is still the voice of WPGC, but DCRTV did hear another voice besides Dr. Dave this morning doing imaging.
WPGC hasn’t made any changes to its air staff.
WPGC is also airing a lot of listener testimonial sweepers talking about the throwbacks.
This move may help WKYS, which dropped from a 4.5 to a 3.4 in the most recent ratings period.
It will be interesting to watch this play out.
