Former WJZ Reporter And Sports Anchor Stan Saunders Passes Away
Former WJZ reporter and weekend sports anchor Stan Saunders has died at the age of 72. According to his family, Saunders passed away on Friday, June 26, following health complications related to long COVID that later developed into sarcoidosis. He left WJZ in 2013.
Beyond his work in television, Saunders founded the Baltimore Academy of Sports and Entertainment, a program that became part of the Baltimore City Public School System in 2020. He also taught as an adjunct professor at Towson University and later served as a professor of Media Studies at Johns Hopkins University before becoming a substitute teacher in Baltimore County schools.
