Hot 100 Jingles (WDJY)
Long before WIHT was HOT 99.5, there was Hot 100 FM at 100.3.
I’m not sure how long this lasted between DJ 100 and Jazzy 100, but it couldn’t have been long.
In the late 1980s, United Broadcasting was going through a tough time as the estate of its owner, Richard Eaton, unfolded. They were trying to get anything to stick.
The jingles presented here are from TM Century; this package was produced in 1989.
100.3 FM has a fascinating history. I’ve done two DCRTV Podcast episodes about 100.3:
The Rise And Fall Of WOOK with Mike Burke
The episode with Mike Burke tells how the Program Director of Hot 100 changed the format to Jazzy 100 without telling anyone at the radio station or United Broadcasting.
The Launch Of A New Radio Station – WBIG “Oldies 100” With Steve Allan
Steve Allan picks up the story of 100.3 FM when Colfax Communications bought the radio station and flipped it from Jazz to Oldies.
We talk about the other formats they considered and how Steve tricked the Washington Post‘s Jeffrey Yorke and DCRTV’s Dave Hughes into thinking 100.3 going country.
Thanks to Chris Roth for sharing the jingles.
