JJ “Hitman” McKay Retires

After 54 years in radio, the Eastern Shore legend has decided to hang up the headphones.

McKay started his career in 1970 in Flagstaff, Arizona and traveled the country from market to market until he landed at 100 KHI in Ocean City in 1984.

He served as KHI’s Music Director, Program Director, and Operations Manager.

His morning show, Hitman and Company, dominated morning ratings in Ocean City during the 1980s and early 1990s.

McKay moved into ownership in 1993, as part owner of WRXS in Ocean City.

He also spent many years as Entertainment Supervisor at Seacrets and the Purple Moose Saloon.

McKay has also done mornings at WCTG in Chincoteague, as well as WAMS and WKHZ in Ocean City.

Most recently, Hitman has been working at 103.5/102.9 The Vault in Ocean City.
