Leo Shank Passes Away
In 1960, Leo Shank and his partners, Howard Fisher and John Staub, signed on Frederick’s second radio station, WMHI.
The station began on 1370 AM, which later became known as 14ZYQ. An FM frequency was added (103.9), and the station eventually became Z104 (WZYQ).
He also owned AM 820 in Frederick, which was known as 82Q.
John Staub sold his share of the stations to his two partners, and those two remained partners for 35 years until the station was sold in 1996. Leo served as the President and CEO of the corporation until the radio stations were sold in 1996.
