New Low Power FM Launches

Strategic Music Partnerships tells DCRTV they have officially launched WEMA-LP (94.3) in Fort Washington, branding itself as “The Community Soundtrack.” For its debut, WEMA is simulcasting coverage of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival from WWOZ in New Orleans.

WEMA is owned by Strategic Music Partnerships, a nonprofit that has spent the past 15 years focused on music education and workforce development. The organization is led by Henry Harris.

The station Is broadcasting 100 watts from an antenna 45.7 meters above ground level. As an LPFM facility, the signal will primarily serve the immediate Fort Washington area. Coverage includes much of southern Prince George’s County, including Fort Washington, Oxon Hill, National Harbor, and parts of Clinton and Temple Hills. In favorable conditions, the signal could also reach across the river into Alexandria and southern Fairfax County, though reception will likely be strongest close to the transmitter site. The station is also streaming on its website and via its iPhone app, with an Android version in the works.
