New Syndicated Replacement For America In The Morning Announced

A new national morning radio show is launching later this month. National Morning Express, from AccuMinute, launches September 21 as a fast-moving hour of news, business, sports, entertainment, and features, filling some of the void left by the end of longtime syndicated America in the Morning.

AccuMinute co founder Rich Johnson has nearly 25 years of DC history spread across several chapters. His first run, from 1985 to 1994, included AP, the former Unistar Network, part time work at WTOP, the early days of WTEM, and freelance writing for CNN. Johnson returned to Washington in 2005 to cover the White House for the newly launched Fox News Radio, spending nine years there. He came back again in 2015 to work at WTOP and Westwood One. He left Washington again in 2019 and now serves as morning editor for Seattle’s Northwest Newsradio, formerly KOMO.

Johnson tells DCRTV that while he’ll likely remain in Seattle, National Morning Express will have a DC presence, with details still to be announced. Consultant Kipper McGee and Gary Lee, a longtime Chicago radio veteran who helped pioneer Shadow Traffic, are also behind the new show. National Morning Express will air weekdays at 5 AM ET beginning September 21, the Monday after America in the Morning signs off for the final time.
