The Man Who Helped Build MPT Has Died
One of the key figures at Maryland Public Television has passed away. Edward Kaplan, who spent nearly 30 years on the Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission and nearly two decades as its chairman, died March 27 at the age of 87.
During his tenure, Kaplan became one of MPT’s most influential advocates and donors. Along with his wife, he established the network’s New Initiatives Fund with a $1 million contribution to support Maryland-focused programming. His impact is also permanently recognized at MPT’s Owings Mills headquarters, where the Irene and Edward H. Kaplan Production Studio was dedicated in 2022.
