WCBS-AM New York To End All News Format

Not local, but an important story…

WCBS-AM in New York will end its nearly 60-year run as an all-news station later this month.

The station’s owner, Audacy, will lease 880 AM to Good Karma Brands. Good Karma Brands is moving its sports format, which airs on a New York FM, that they lease, to WCBS’s 880 frequency.

WCBS signs off on August 26th.

More from Audacy.

DCRTV’s take: Seeing such a legendary station die kills me. But the reality Is that Audacy is in a tough financial situation, and this was probably an easy way for the company to cut costs and earn money without having to do anything. Audacy gets to cash Good Karma’s lease check every month, and they don’t have any expenses. I really hate to see it, but I’m sure it made business sense to them.

Locally Audacy owns in Washington on FM: 94.7 The Drive, 106.7 The Fan, WPGC, El Zol, On AM: 1580 The Bet, 980 The Team, and in Baltimore: 105.7 The Fan, Today’s 101.9, Mix 106.5, and on AM; 1300 The Bet. They also lease 99.1 WDCH to Bloomberg.
