WETA Announces Replacements For PBS Weekend
WETA is rolling out two new weekend programs to replace PBS News Weekend, which will air its final broadcast in January. The new shows will each be 30 minutes long and air on Saturdays and Sundays, maintaining the same footprint as the outgoing program while expanding PBS News’ weekend offerings across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.
The Saturday program, Horizons From PBS News, will be hosted by William Brangham and focus on in-depth reporting around science, health, technology, and the environment. Each episode will center on a single topic, aiming to provide deeper context rather than headline-driven coverage.
On Sundays, Compass Points From PBS News, hosted by Nick Schifrin, will examine global affairs and U.S. foreign policy through discussions with journalists, experts, and former officials. Together, the two programs signal a shift toward more issue-focused, long-form storytelling on PBS weekends.
