WHUR Celebrates 50 Years Of The Original Quiet Storm
WHUR (96.3) will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its nighttime show, The Original Quiet Storm, this Friday night. The free event starts at 7 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, 901 G Street NW.
The late Melvin Lindsey was the original host when the show launched in 1976. The Original Quiet Storm blends soulful R&B, romantic ballads, and contemporary music. The show’s influence eventually reached stations nationwide.
Former Quiet Storm hosts will join current host Raheem DeVaughn for a conversation about the show’s history, its personalities, and its connection with generations of listeners. The evening will also include music performances and a display of photos and video from the show’s five-decade run.
