WKCW Plans To Return After Tower Collapse

Warrenton’s WKCW-AM (1420) remains off the air after one of its towers collapsed back in July.

In a new filing with the Federal Communications Commission, WKCW says it is working to replace the fallen tower and obtain the necessary permits to rebuild. There is concern that delays in the process could prevent the station from restoring full licensed operations before its silent authority expires on July 2.

As a result, WKCW has requested Special Temporary Authority (STA) to return to the air at reduced power. The proposal would allow the station to operate non-directionally during daytime hours from its remaining tower at 5,500 watts, which is 25 percent of its licensed daytime power. The radio station hopes to be back on air soon, but there is no timetable right now.
