WMAR Morning Team Says Goodbye As More Anchorless Newscasts Appear On The Way

During Tuesday morning’s Good Morning Maryland, the morning team said goodbye to viewers, raising expectations that the station is preparing to eliminate the traditional live anchor format from its morning newscasts as well.

The move would follow changes already made to WMAR’s 7 and 11 p.m. newscasts, which recently dropped live anchors in favor of a format built around weather and prerecorded local and national news reports. The Baltimore station is one of the first E.W. Scripps properties moving toward the company’s new technology and streaming focused news model.

Scripps has been restructuring its local television news operations nationwide, including the elimination of hundreds of positions, and the company has indicated that additional changes will be coming to WMAR’s newscasts.
