WNTX Running at Reduced Power

WNTX (1350 AM) in Fredericksburg is operating at reduced daytime power because of ongoing antenna tuning problems. The station, which is supposed to run at 1 kW days and 37 watts at night, has been having transmitter trouble since February.

Depending on conditions, daytime power has ranged from 750 watts to as little as 120 watts, while nighttime operations remain at the licensed 37 watts. Engineers have been trying to resolve the issue but have been unsuccessful in bringing the signal back to full strength.

The tower site also carries WFLS-FM, which Is not affected by WNTX’s troubles.

Alpha Media, the station’s owner, says it’s still determining whether repairs can restore full power or if a complete rebuild will be needed.
