WRNR Improves Audio Quality on 103.5 HD4

Listeners tuning into WRNR on 103.5 HD4 should notice a significant improvement in audio quality. While the station still sounds best on its primary 93.5 FM signal in Annapolis and Silver Spring, the HD4 channel has become a much more usable option for listeners outside the station’s coverage area.

When WRNR first launched on 103.5 HD4, the audio quality wasn’t great because the station was operating at a very low bitrate. However, as of today, the HD4 signal is operating at double the bit rate, resulting in noticeably better sound quality, now making it a practical backup for listeners who can’t reliably receive 93.5 FM.

WRNR Partner Kirk Litton told DCRTV the HD4 signal was never intended to be a primary listening platform: “It was just an FCC requirement to have WRNR air on the 93.5 FM signal.” With the improved audio, listeners now have a much better way to hear the station when they’re outside its FM signal range.
