WTOP’s Bob Immler retires
After fifteen years at WTOP, traffic reporter Bob Immler retired on Friday, marking the end of an era for Washington-area commuters.
Immler’s career began in 1982 as a mobile traffic reporter in Baltimore, long before the convenience of traffic cameras and GPS navigation. When he joined WTOP in 2010, the station had just brought its traffic operations in-house, and Immler quickly proved his value during the infamous January 2011 snowstorm that left countless commuters stranded overnight in gridlock. His colleague Dave Dildine praised him as an encyclopedia of regional highway knowledge, someone who could cut through confusion and deliver accurate information with remarkable ease.
