WUSA9 Reporter Matthew Torres Leaving Station
Matthew Torres announced on X that this week will be his last at WUSA after nearly six years.
Torres joined WUSA9 in December 2020 after spending nearly a decade working in television news across the South. Before arriving in Washington, he spent six years as a general assignment reporter at NewsChannel 5 in Nashville, where he covered major political events, natural disasters, and high-profile trials. His reporting earned Emmy and Tennessee Associated Press awards, along with a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for his in-depth coverage of the opioid crisis. Torres began his career as a weekend anchor and multimedia journalist in Abilene, Texas, and is a graduate of the University of North Texas.
In his farewell message, Torres said reporting in Washington “was never part of the plan,” but that relocating to the nation’s capital and initially freelancing at WUSA9 proved to be a rewarding decision.
