1970’s Washington Star Jingle

Listen to “1970's Washington Star Jingle” on Spreaker.

When was the last time you heard a jingle for a newspaper? In the 1970’s The Washington Star had one.

From 1852 until 1981, The Washington Star was a daily afternoon paper in Washington, DC.

Faye Haskins, who wrote a book about the Star, said the Washington Star was known as a good, local paper for its first 100 years. But it wasn’t aggressive enough and became very stale.

When the Star went bankrupt in 1981, the Washington Post purchased its land and buildings, including its printing presses.

Today’s jingle is from the late 1970s after the paper shortened its name from The Washington Star News to The Washington Star.
