WKDV Asks FCC For More Time To Find New Tower Site
Metro Radio Inc. is asking the FCC for additional time to find a new transmitter site for 1460 LA LEY (WKDV), saying its search for a new tower location has been complicated by zoning, permitting and local opposition.
WKDV was silent for much of the period between December 2020 and March 2022 after the land for its Manassas tower property was sold. The station has been broadcasting from a temporary tower site in Fair Lakes.
In a filing submitted to the FCC today, Metro Radio said it has spent the past six months looking at tower sites, rooftops and other properties across the DC area. The company says potential locations have run into problems ranging from property owner restrictions to zoning concerns. The filing also says Fairfax County officials have indicated informally that approval for a new AM tower, including a rooftop or building mounted system, would be difficult to obtain. Metro Radio says it will continue searching for a technically and legally workable site that would allow WKDV to resume full time operation.
