(Audio) The Last World News Roundup
The World News Roundup aired for the final time Friday morning, ending the longest-running newscast in American broadcasting history.
Steve Kathan handled the final edition, which included Memorial Day travel updates and the sudden death of NASCAR driver Kyle Busch before reflecting on the network’s sign-off.
“Our history has always been important to us,” Kathan told listeners as he thanked affiliates and audiences across the country. The final broadcast also featured archival audio from legendary CBS correspondent Edward R. Murrow from 1938, a nod to the network’s long history in radio news.
