Scripps Cuts 268 Jobs With WMAR Employees Affected
E. W. Scripps has confirmed that it is eliminating 268 positions across its operations, with several employees at WMAR 2 News in Baltimore among those affected. The nationwide reductions are part of a company transformation plan centered on continuous local streaming, standardized digital production and increased use of artificial intelligence and automation.
Photojournalist Kristi Harper confirmed on social media that she was laid off. A separate social media post from a former WMAR employee identified Jared Adkins, Dominick Philippe Auguste and Travis Case as employees whose jobs will end September 1. WMAR has not publicly disclosed the full number of Baltimore positions eliminated.
Scripps says the affected jobs are primarily connected to traditional newscast production, including some producer and director positions. In about a dozen local television markets, the company plans to move toward a digital first model that publishes reports, live updates and video throughout the day while continuing scheduled television newscasts.
