Johnny Holliday Receives Honorary Degree From University Of Maryland
Johnny Holliday has added another honor to his lengthy resume. The University of Maryland awarded Holliday an honorary degree during its 2026 commencement ceremonies, recognizing his decades of service to the university and the broadcasting profession. University officials cited his nearly five decades behind the microphone and his contributions to Maryland athletics and the community.
Holliday has served as the voice of Maryland football and men’s basketball since 1979. During that span, he has called thousands of Terrapins games, including bowl appearances, Sweet Sixteen runs, and Final Four appearances. The university praised Holliday’s role in helping generations of fans experience some of the biggest moments in Terps history.
Before becoming synonymous with Maryland athletics, Holliday built a successful broadcasting career in Washington. He arrived in the market in 1969, hosting mornings at WWDC before moving to WMAL, where he handled sports duties from 1978 to 1991. Along the way, Holliday became one of the region’s most recognizable voices on both radio and television. Congratulations to Johnny on a well-deserved honor!
