CBS Gives DCRTV Exclusive Access To Farewell Memo

As CBS News Radio signed off Friday after nearly 100 years on the air, CBS has exclusively provided DCRTV with an internal farewell memo sent to staff by Manager Of Technical Operations, Dustin Gervais. The memo offers a behind-the-scenes look at the emotions inside the network during its final hours.

The memo reflected on CBS’s beginnings in 1927 under William S. Paley and praised the generations of reporters, anchors, engineers, producers, and newsroom staffers who helped build the network into one of radio’s most respected news brands. Gervais wrote about the people who “showed up early, stayed late, missed holidays, left dinners half-eaten because the phone rang and the story couldn’t wait.” He also paid tribute to Edward R. Murrow and the legendary World News Roundup, which aired its final broadcast Friday morning after an 88-year run.

Gervais acknowledged frustration over the shutdown, writing that “there are people in this room and throughout the country who are angry about how this ends.” But the overall tone of the memo was one of pride and gratitude for the work CBS News Radio accomplished over the decades. The message closed with Murrow’s famous signoff: “Good night… and good luck.” You can read the full memo below.
