Mike O’Meara Announces Retirement
Mike O’Meara announced on The Mike O’Meara Show podcast Tuesday that he will be retiring on January 21. The announcement signals the end of a remarkable run for one of the most recognizable voices in Washington radio, whose career in the market stretches back 46 years.
O’Meara became a Washington radio institution alongside Don Geronimo on The Don and Mike Show. The pair began working together at WAVA (105.1) in 1985 before moving to WJFK (106.7) in 1991, where the show became nationally syndicated. After Geronimo retired in 2008, O’Meara continued with The Mike O’Meara Show until WJFK flipped to sports in July 2009.
Rather than leaving broadcasting behind, O’Meara successfully moved the show into podcasting later in 2009, years before podcasting became the mainstream business it is today. The Mike O’Meara Show has continued as a regular podcast with Robb Spewak.
