WMAL History Lives On At Former Tower Site In Bethesda

A piece of Washington radio history is now living on in a new place… just steps away from where it once stood.

The former WMAL tower site in Bethesda, where the station transmitted for decades, has been fully redeveloped into a residential community known as Amalyn. The iconic towers were torn down in 2020, marking the end of an era for one of the region’s most historic radio facilities.

Now, that history is being preserved for a new generation. The community clubhouse called The Forum at Amalyn features a newly installed display highlighting the legacy of WMAL and its long run in Washington broadcasting. Residents will also get a deeper look at that history, with additional information to be included in the community’s newsletter this week. You can see the posters below.
