Baltimore MTA and WRNR Working On a Compromise

The Baltimore MTA has dismissed its interference complaint with the FCC against WRNR’s new translator at 93.5 FM, as both parties work out the issue privately.

The two sides say they’ve agreed to work things out, rather than fight it out. Engineers are currently running tests to find a signal strength and coverage pattern that both parties can live with. The dispute arose shortly after WRNR launched its 93.5 translator. The MTA, which operates low-power WTTZ-LP on the same frequency to air transit information and music, argued that the new translator caused interference.

Instead of letting the lawyers and the FCC drag the matter on, both sides are trying a technical compromise. No timeline has been announced for when testing will wrap, but insiders say the early results look promising.
