WRNR Beats 98 Rock In Key Baltimore Demos

WRNR (93.5) put up some eye-popping numbers in the September Nielsen radio ratings. It’s impressive considering WRNR is competing without a full market signal. WRNR is heard on 810 WYRE–AM, an FM translator and online, yet in Baltimore it tied 98 Rock (WIYY), 92Q (WERQ) and The Fan (WJZ) among Men 18 to 34 with a 7.2 share. Even more impressive, WRNR ranked first in middays among Men 18 to 34 with a 16.4 share, more than double 98 Rock at 6.0. Among Men 18 to 49 in middays, WRNR was also number one with an 8.0 share, ahead of 92Q at 6.6 and 98 Rock at 4.9.

The numbers get even stronger when Nielsen isolates Anne Arundel County. Among Men 18 to 49, WRNR scored a massive 27.8 share in middays, while no other station in the report was even close. In afternoon drive, WRNR posted a 25.7 share, compared with 8.6 for Jack FM (WQSR) and 5.7 for 98 Rock. WRNR also beat 98 Rock among Adults 18 to 49 in morning drive, posting a 12.6 share to 98 Rock‘s 9.7. Among Men 18 to 34 in afternoon drive, WRNR led with a 15.9 share, compared with 9.1 for 98 Rock.

What makes the performance remarkable is that 98 Rock, 92Q, Mix 106.5, Z104.3, and 105.7 The Fan operate full-power FM signals with far greater market reach. WRNR is competing with a much smaller footprint. Imagine what kind of numbers WRNR would pull if they had a full market signal.
