WAMU Hit With $1.5M Cut As Feds Slash Public Broadcasting Funds
Congress voted last week to eliminate over $1 billion in federal funding for PBS and NPR. WAMU stands to lose about $1.5 million a year, or 4–5% of its budget.
GM Erika Pulley-Hayes says the station saw it coming and has been preparing. No immediate programming or staffing changes are planned, and listener donations have already picked up.
The cuts raise questions about the future of WAMU’s nationally syndicated show 1A, but the station is working with NPR to manage the impact.
