WNAV Looks To Return To FM
Annapolis’ WNAV is working to rebuild its FM footprint after losing access to its 99.9 translator several months ago. The station had been leasing the 99.9 facility, but when that deal ended, WNAV was forced to shut off its only FM simulcast, leaving the station operating solely on AM 1430.
WNAV has formally filed paperwork with the FCC to get back on the FM dial. The plan calls for a 75-watt directional translator on 92.7, made possible by the Mattoon waiver, which allows AM stations to pursue certain translator relocations that wouldn’t normally be permitted under standard rules.
If approved, the new 92.7 signal would mark WNAV’s return to FM and help restore coverage around Annapolis, where 99.9 had become an important part of the station’s reach. For now, the application sits with the FCC.
