Engineer John Diamantis Has Passed Away
The Fredericksburg radio community is mourning the loss of longtime engineer John Diamantis, who has passed away.
Diamantis spent more than two decades working behind the scenes at stations including WBQB, WFVA, WFLS, WVBX, WWUZ, and WNTX. While he started his career on-air, he found his niche in engineering, becoming one of those steady, behind-the-scenes voices who kept stations on the air and running smoothly. Prior to his time in Fredericksburg, he held engineering roles in Washington at stations including WCXR, WBIG, WGMS, and WTEM. Prior to the sale of WCXR to Viacom, John oversaw a complete rebuild of the station’s studios.
In a note to staff, Connoisseur VP/Market ManagerMarket Manager Debbie Patten called Diamantis “the backbone of a radio station,” praising his consistency, skill, and calm presence in a fast-moving business. Outside the station, he was known for his love of poker and, even more, for his pride in his family. He is remembered as someone who kept things working without needing the spotlight. A GoFundMe has been setup to support his family.
